ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Advanced Fuel Cell System Design Engineer,--you will work closely with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to design, develop, and commercialize high-performance fuel cell power generation technologies for unmanned systems (air, ground, and underwater vehicles).
The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of the design and development of fuel cell systems and demonstrates aptitude for the integration of complex electrochemical, electronics, software, thermal, and packaging technologies into prototypes and manufacturable products that delight customers. Technical curiosity, passion for winning, and creative, hands-on approach to problem-solving are highly sought-after traits for this position.
You will--be a key contributor to technology maturity projects, coordinate across multiple organizations, and build deep--technical knowledge required for the design and development of fuel cell systems and platform integrations. You will participate in developing new concepts and--writing--proposals--to government funding agencies to secure project funding. You will work in an--Agile--(Scrum) environment to--solve complex problems--with speed and--creativity. This role reports to the Advanced Alternative Power team within Honeywell Aerospace Advanced & Applied Technology organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Contribute and lead small teams in the design and development of next generation fuel cell stacks and power systems and their integration with unmanned systems (air, ground, and underwater vehicles)
  • Act as a fuel cell system and component design leader within Honeywell Advanced and Applied Technology, championing technology and design maturity from initial concepts and research hardware through to product launch
  • Integrate with existing project teams and university partners to drive development of key technologies through early--design--through multiple--prototyping--cycles
  • Work to understand complex customer requirements and collaborate with team members, customers, and partners to translate these requirements to key--design--parameters
  • Transform customer requirements into--innovative--prototypes based on creative--design--and fabrication techniques
  • Support the transition and optimization of prototype fuel cell system and component designs to product design and manufacturing
  • Solve complex problems--through analysis and--innovation; solutions may become part of standard operating procedure
  • Travel: up to 10%
  • Reports to:--Sr R&D Manager

    U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorizationMUST HAVE

    • 5+ years of fuel cell system and balance of plant engineering design and integration experience
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
    • Strong understanding of PEM fuel cell technologies including MEAs, cells, stacks, BOP components, and systems

      • Bachelor's degree--in Mechanical Engineering or related degree program
      • MS or PhD in a science or engineering degree program
      • Experience designing, building, testing, and SWaP optimization of prototype fuel cell systems and balance of plant component technologies
      • Understanding of small, unmanned vehicle platforms and power system integration--
      • Experience--with conceptual design iteration, alternatives analyses, and maturing groundbreaking new ideas
      • Experience with design for manufacturing and transitioning robust designs to product development and productionExperience working in an--Agile environment
      • Proficiency with CAD tools such as: CREO (ProE), MasterCAM, Solidworks, NX
      • Proficiency in analyzing experimental data using standard software tools (e.g.,--Excel,--Simulink, MATLAB,--Python, etc.)--
      • Experience with--modeling and analysis tools--such as--MATLAB, COMSOL,--ANSYS
      • Strong--self-motivation/direction, entrepreneurial mind-set, and teaming skills
      • Clear and concise written and--verbal communication skills
