Job Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Using prescribed methods, performs
specific and limited portions of broader structural engineering
assignments relating to elevated structures, bridges, buildings and
other facilities. Gathers and analyzes pertinent information and
provides logical, comprehensive and intelligent solutions relating
to routine projects. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of
records for current and future projects, keeping an accurate log of
the budgetary analysis, work schedules and status reports. Prepares
design drawings and reviews shop drawings. Assists higher level
engineers in the planning and designing of elevated structures,
bridges, buildings and other facilities requiring the application
of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Accompanies higher
level engineers on field inspections providing assistance in the
monitoring and auditing of active projects, checking for
completeness, efficiency and compliance with predetermined
standards. Compares bills submitted by the Finance Department with
progress reports to determine correct fees to be paid to
contractors and consultants. Performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to this position are the
following jobs: Job Title CHALLENGES Complete projects within
schedule and learning new structural engineering methods.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required to possess a Bachelor’s
Degree in Structural Engineering or a combination of education and
approximately 3 years of experience relating to this position.
Valid Illinois Driver’s License PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Light
physical effort required. Subject to prevailing weather when
traveling the Chicago Metropolitan Area when conducting field
inspections, investigations and infrastructure assessments of
shops, garages, yards, terminals and elevated subway and ballasted
track areas adjacent to electrified contact rails and moving
vehicles. Occasionally required to travel to other transit
properties located throughout North America. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIES WORKING CONDITIONS Occasionally travels to field
locations to inspect existing conditions and observe status of
construction projects. EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED
Computer, calculator Employees and/or union members will be given
